Step up to the 2022 K5 and Sonata, and you will realize they each have their own look.
While both use standard LED headlamps, the Kia sedan does something a little different with them. They feature “heartbeat” daytime running lights!
The look of those daytime running lights will get your blood pumping. It’s sure to get your new set of wheels noticed from far up the road! You can only find them in the Kia, as the Hyundai lacks this particular expression of style.
As your daytime running lights pulsate like a heartbeat on camera in the K5, you’ll treat every driver and pedestrian you pass to a beautiful show!
The Kia K5 and Hyundai Sonata make room for up to five people, and they do it with roughly the same dimensions. Climb aboard and find generous headroom and legroom, whether you opt for the first or second row.
The difference isn’t much, but the K5 offers more room in the rear for passengers to stretch their legs. It is able to do this thanks to a slightly longer wheelbase: 112.2 inches, compared to the Sonata’s 111.8 inches.
With identically sized trunks, the K5 and Sonata each offer 16 cubic feet of cargo space. Pack for a weekend away and enjoy the extra convenience of available hands-free trunks too!

With identical powertrains, how different can the 2022 K5 and Sonata really be performance-wise? They max out with the same output: up to 290 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque from an available 2.5L Turbo 4-cylinder engine.
Of course, for the best gas mileage, choose the base engine for each model. Unlike the range-topping engines, these engines are different, depending on the model. You’ll see slightly better MPG ratings from the base Kia K5:
- Kia K5 - EPA-estimated 29 city/38 highway MPG1
- Hyundai Sonata - EPA-estimated 28 city/38 highway MPG
While the numbers are close, the extra city MPG is just one more point in favor of the Kia sedan.
